What if when you left your home for longer than three days you had to move out and start from fresh when you got back? If you were let back in at all?
What if someone made it their business to decide that you could not have anyone spend the night at your house, and even though you were 43 years old you could only have alcohol on special occasions, if you were good?
What if there was no guarantee you and your spouse, let alone friend could live together?
What if your entire living space, your whole apartment, was 10 ft. by 12 ft. and you had to share it with a roommate your landlord picked for you?
What if it was all for your own good?
What if you had your own place to live and had to give it up for the fun of living like this?
What if they gave you drugs if you were "uncooperative"?
That's life in a nursing home, and in a lot of other institutions too. Well that's not really the half of it, but you get the picture.
If this sounds as lousy to you as it does to millions of Americans, support ADAPT and our call for 25% of Medicaid funds being redirected from nursing homes to community-based attendant services.
