Twenty-five regional ADAPT activists made their presence known at the annual Duke City Marathon, Sunday Sept. 29, 1996, to protest the co-sponsorship of nursing home corporate bad citizen Sun-Health Group.
Sun grossly profited over $600 million off the backs of disabled and elderly prisoners. Sun is also under Federal and State of New Mexico investigation of Medicare fraud.
The 25 ADAPTers (from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, El Paso and Abilene, TX and Denver, CO) handed out flyers to race participants and crowd that pointed out ADAPT's position and Sun's money-grubbing greed. When Sun's CEO Andy Turner came to the microphone to "say a few words", he did just that "thank you." Then ADAPT shouted down the rip-off CEO.
ADAPT also had folks from the crowd and participants thank us for pointing out the problem, and some from the crowd even joined in, carrying signs.
It was a beautiful day for ADAPT knowing that we stopped one of the corporate "MONSTERS" from getting a day in the sun!
