PASSAGES
ADAPT has lost two powerful activists since the last issue of Incitement. This summer George Wolf passed away shortly after a celebration with his Kansas ADAPT comrades. Wolf, who was one of the Kansas organizers, served as the President of the board of the Topeka Center for Independent Living. He was also a computer wizard, and advocate extraordinarre. Having come to independent living and disability rights from homelessness and the streets Wolf had a firm grasp of reality in his activism and was not one to be dazzled by fancy foot work or a silver tongue. He lived his life as he wanted, on his own terms, of which we can be glad. None the less, we will miss him.
Also gone is Roy Perez of Austin ADAPT and “Room 808” fame. Perez died in March. He had been in a coma since January when his oxygen had accidentally been blocked for about 20 minutes. Perez, a hardy partier, was also an advocate in many ways - both public and personal. In addition to ADAPT actions, Perez served as guardian for a young man with MS who was being sent to a nursing home until Perez offered to help him out. Roy leaves a gap which will be felt for a long, long time.
On a happier note, we have two more grand papas too! Gil Casarez and Tony Cordoba, both of Denver, are new grand pas, and surely will be packing pictures in DC in June.
