Little known to the thousands in attendance were the battles Dallas ADAPT fought to get the DART, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, board of directors, to make light rail useable by people with disabilities. Dallas ADAPT got DART to commit to $750,000 of improvements to: seating areas within the cars to accommodate 3-wheelers and large chairs, buttons for lifts so that quads can use them, and replacing lifts with ramps at some stops. This six month battle culminated with 8 year old Bryce Thomas, accompanied by his mom Janet, being the first person with a disability to ride the accessible light rail in Dallas along with DOT Secretary Pena.
