On Friday, January 27th, the White House will be having a disability policy office hours session starting at 9:00 AM Eastern (8 am Central, 7 am Mountain, 6 am Pacific). Kareem Dale, Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy, will be answering questions on disability policy. ADAPT wants to make sure that the issues that are important to us get raised and ANSWERED! President Obama did not touch on disability issues during his State of the Union speech last Tuesday night.
In preparation for this, we are asking that people mobilize their networks to be prepared to send questions and messages through Twitter to the White House. To do that, folks must be registered on Twitter. The White House will be answering questions first thing in the morning (9 AM Eastern), so we need to get folks signed up with Twitter ASAP!
To sign up with Twitter, go to: www.twitter.com. It’s VERY EASY!
If you are unfamiliar with Twitter, find a young person with a disability to help since often they can Tweet for you or show you how to get set up. It’s a great opportunity to engage young people in our cause. It's also an opportunity for them to help lead our movement and make a big difference!
You don’t need to blow up your cellphone to participate. This can be done online, but when you send your message or ask your question, you need to include #WHChat in your message. It’s called a hashtag and sends the message to the White House. Again, if you have questions, ask a young person.
Messages must be less than 140 characters. Below are some questions and short messages ADAPT suggests you can send during tomorrow’s session. You can copy and paste the messages below to make it easy. Feel free to send the various chants multiple times so they know this is important to us!
Thanks for helping to FREE OUR PEOPLE!
