I arose early this morning excited to be among my ADAPT sisters and brothers once more. I’d heard rumors that the day would be a gem.

We left the hotel about noon bound for our action site. The march there was longer than some ADAPT marches I’ve been on, but we managed to do a good job of staying together. As we got closer to the site, I was amazed to see that we were approaching some ritzy homes surrounded by a wrought iron fence. It looked like a fortress. It was the home of Senator Bill Frist (R-TN), Majority Leader of the Senate.

As the Senator’s neighbors peeped out their windows wondering what the heck was going on, ADAPT got down to the business of demanding Frist stop targeting people with disabilities by cutting the very services that we need to survive in the community, and to meet with ADAPT. Whether he wasn’t at home, or simply couldn’t bother to come out didn’t matter; we continued to send the message in our chants and songs, which resounded through his neighborhood.

I’m sure his neighbors won’t forget this day for a long time. After such a powerful day, I can’t wait for the rest of the week!
