Though federal legislation is important, a lot of the change we are all fighting for takes place at the state and local levels
Over 18,000 people have made it clear they want OUT, but the state drags its feet and back-pedals on getting them out. In fact… THE GOVERNOR HAS JUST COMMITTED TO OPENING A NEW STATE “SCHOOL” (A.K.A. LONG TERM CARE INSTITUTION) FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Illinois is home to one of the most insidious pro institution groups in the nation
ADAPT of Chicago is one of the major networks in the ADAPT Community. We have great local support from the Independent Living Center Access Living and the Progress Center as well as other local groups
The two original sponsors of the Community Choice Act, CCA, Representatives Danny Davis (Chicago!) and John Shimkus are from Illinois Illinois Senators Dick Durbin & Barack Obama are co-sponsors of CCA
